Bible Survey, A Big Screen Perspective

Bible Survey is a set of ten 30-minute (or so) videos that summarize the whole Bible with an emphasis on system for studying, managing, and teaching Bible content.

 The videos include:

  • An Introductory lecture
  • Four lectures about the Old Testament
  • One lecture about the writings of the intertestamental period
  • Four lectures about the New Testament

The Bible study divides the Old Testament and the New Testament each into three categories, called “boxes”:

  1. Foundational books
  2. Old Testament=Pentateuch
  3. New Testament=Gospels
  4. Historical books
  5. Old Testament=Joshua through Esther
  6. New Testament=Acts
  7. Instructional books
  8. Old Testament=Poetry and Prophets
  9. New Testament=Epistles and Revelation

Eat This Book: A Conversation in the Art of Spiritual Reading by Eugene H. Peterson

Eugene Peterson translated The Message, which puts the scriptures in modern language with contemporary metaphors and examples. In Eat This Book he describes ways of Bible reading that transform us into people who more resemble Jesus, including lectio divina.

This website features a great variety of resources that will help with reading and understanding the Bible. Resources include:

  • Library where you can read transcripts of lectures on a wide variety of biblical topics. The library has a search function to help you find the topics you are interested in.
  • Three levels of classes. Some of the classes are audio-only, and others include video of the professor giving the lecture.
  • Foundations A basic yet comprehensive set of Bible and theology classes geared for everyone.
  • Academy University-level classes on the Bible and theology for those who want to go deeper.
  • Institute Seminary-level classes for those wanting a graduate-level education, all taught by top-notch faculty handpicked from 17 major seminaries.
