Bibles

0-3 years Old

• The Beginner’s Bible: This is a great, introduction to the Bible. It overviews major Bible stories and is written for little ones to understand. 
• My Very First Bible Stories: This is a board book that includes 14 Bible stories with illustrations for young kids. 

4-7 years old

• The Jesus Storybook Bible: Each story ties back to Christ. My crew has loved this book and read through it a few times. 
• Jesus Calling Bible Storybook: Another go-to Bible for preschool kids that older kids enjoy as well. It goes through classic Bible stories and ties each one back to a prayer that applies to our own lives. 
• The Promises of God Storybook Bible: The Story of God’s Unstoppable Love: Full disclosure, this one will be a Christmas gift at our house so we haven’t read it just yet. It came out last year to great reviews. It might be a nice supplement if you want a new take on classic stories in the Bible. 

7-12 years old

• The Adventure Bible: This is an excellent first Bible (not just Bible stories, but the entire Bible) for elementary-aged kids. I might be partial as this is the Bible I grew up with, but it is still a classic. There are other versions as well for early readers. 
• The Action Bible: A picture Bible written similar to a comic book. This is a Bible an older elementary child could read on their own. 

Other Books

0-3 years Old

• The Gospel (Big Theology for Little Hearts): I’m going to get this for my 4 year old this Christmas. It’s a beginning book to Christian theology by going over topics like God, man, rebellion, Jesus, sacrifice, etc. It is the first in a three-part series. 
• The One Year Devotional for Preschoolers: A sweet set of devotionals that are age appropriate for little ones. 
• Everywhere I Go, God is with Me: This is one of many Li’l Buddies books. These are sweet board books with Christian themes. 

4-7 years old

• When God Made You: (NEW!) A sweet storybook discussing how God made each of us unique. 
• Children, Can you Hear Me? How to Hear and See God?: (NEW!) This is an amazing book to encourage kids to listen to God’s voice and form a relationship with him. 
• How Great is Our God: 100 Devotions for Kids about God and Science: Honestly, I haven’t read this one yet, but recently bought it as a Christmas gift for the boys. It just came out. 
• The Best News Ever: A great storybook about how God loves us. If your child is considering putting their faith in Christ, this is a fantastic book to read with them. 
• Notes from Jesus: What Your New Best Friend Wants you to Know: A great devotional written from the perspective of Jesus talking to you. 
• ColorFull: Celebrating the Colors God Gave Us: Helpful for teaching children to understand race.

7-12 years old

Devotionals/Theology

• Love Does for Kids: This book is filled with stories that encourage kids to dream big and consider how they can make a difference for God. We’ve been reading some of the stories from time to time in Sunday School.
• The Radical Book for Kids: Exploring the Roots and Shoots of Faith: This book was phenomenal. I learned quite a bit and my kids loved it (lots of strong theology in this book, coupled with interesting information about the Bible). 

Supernatural

I want to caveat that this book may not 100% align with Vineyard theology and that you should read it alongside your children (if you choose to read it). In the Summer survey sent to parents, a few of you asked for books related to the Holy Spirit. It turns out, while most children’s books don’t discount the work of the Holy Spirit, the also don’t focus on it. This book discusses the work of the Holy Spirit in kids. It falls outside Vineyard, yet may be helpful.

• Children and the Supernatural: True Accounts of Kids Unlocking the Power of God through Visions, Healing, and Miracles: This book shares experiences of kids and how God has moved in their lives (including examples of healings, prophesy, and evangelism). I just started reading this with my crew and it shares powerful stories of the Holy Spirit working in the lives of children. I would encourage you to read with your children and help them understand and look for the little ways in which God can speak and work through us.

Journaling

• Christian Gratitude Journal for Kids

Fiction

• The Chronicles of Narnia: Classic books with Biblical themes. 
• Hinds’ Feet on High Places: Don’t let the odd cover deceive you. This is an excellent book written in an allegory format. 

Biographies - This is something my older kids have gotten really into this summer/fall. We have read each of these biographies together (they were a bit too difficult for my 7 year old to read alone, but my 11 year old easily could have read them independently).

• The Faithful Spy: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Plot to Kill Hitler: This was an amazing graphic novel that shares Bonhoeffer’s life and the difficult decisions he made living in Nazi Germany in the 30s and 40s. The author also lives in St. Louis, which is pretty cool. 
• Christian Heroes: Then and Now: This past fall, we have read both the Nate Saint and Corrie Ten Boombiographies by Geoff and Janet Benge. Both were fantastic reads that my kids enjoyed. How encouraging to read stories of people of faith that did amazing things for God in trying circumstances.  There are TONS of biographies by Benge and Benge I can’t speak for the rest, but the two linked were fantastic reads.
