Bring in a freezer meal

We stock home-cooked meals in the church's freezer to distribute to families or individuals in times of need.

As you prepare food for yourself and your family, would you consider making a double batch per month to split between you and the church?

Susan Tarr has taken the helm of this "unofficial ministry" in our church family and would love to get more people involved! Check out some ways you could participate:

  • See below for instructions on bringing in a freezer meal to stock the church freezer once a month (or even just once!)
  • Sign up to be on Susan's list to cook something when we hear of a family that would feel loved by some meals
  • Sign up to be on a list to deliver the meals to families

Instructions for bringing in meals

  • Bring your dish to the office (M-Th).
  • OR leave it in the church kitchen freezer on Sundays
  • Clearly label your food: Name of dish • Date prepared • Ingredients (such as onions or spices) that may cause irritation • Your contact information.
  • Email the office (vineyardoffice@stlvineyard.org) to let them know what you left! :)

Meal suggestions

  • Soups of all kinds
  • Mild chilis (beans freeze well)
  • Casseroles with rice or pasta
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Meatloaf, Italian beef or chicken dishes
  • No need to supply buns or pastas.

Cooking tips

  • Avoid spicy dishes as the food may go to a nursing mom or family in crisis.
  • Cooked potatoes develop a gritty texture when frozen.
  • Fully cooked pasta turns mushy, so undercook slightly.
  • Some dairy products will separate when frozen.
  • The church can supply pans and lids: ask the office or Susan Tarr.
